Damien Allport
I genuinely enjoy chatting with guests and helping them make the most of their snow holiday—whether that’s sharing local tips, hidden gems, or the best ways to experience the mountain. You’ll often find me in the snowsports shop, assisting with rentals and offering advice on equipment and the resort to ensure you’re set up for a great day on the slopes.
In my spare time, I’m passionate about alpine racing and backcountry skiing, as well as motorcycling and mountain biking—so I’m always happy to share firsthand insights with fellow enthusiasts.
The Falls Creek Hotel Story…..
A hotel built on family, tradition, and a deep love for the mountains.
The Falls Creek Hotel has been family-owned and operated since opening its doors in 1972—but the story begins even earlier. In 1965, Ivan and Joy Spargo, made the bold decision to leave Melbourne behind and start a new life in the alpine village of Falls Creek. There, they built Spargo Lodge—a welcoming dorm-style chalet designed for families and groups to share in the magic of the snow.
Just a few years later, in 1967, Rob Spargo met his future wife Blanche while she was holidaying in Falls Creek. Their shared passion for the mountains led to both marriage and a vision. Together, they secured the site where the Falls Creek Hotel stands today. Despite the challenges of building on a steep alpine slope, they saw its potential as one of the best locations in the village.
In 1970, Rob’s sister Leonie and her husband Glenn joined the venture, and by 1972, the Falls Creek Hotel was born.
From the very beginning, the Spargo family played a vital role in shaping the Falls Creek community. They were instrumental in establishing Falls Creek Primary School and the local Search & Rescue service (now the SES). Rob also contributed to the broader ski industry, helping launch Ski Victoria and serving on both the Chamber and Resort Management Board. Carrying on the family’s alpine spirit, his eldest daughter Lisa went on to compete with the Australian Ski Team and worked as a ski instructor across Australia, Austria, and Colorado.
In 2010, Lisa and her husband Damien Allport returned to Falls Creek to continue the family legacy. Following Rob and Blanche’s retirement in 2014, and Leonie and Glenn’s in 2017, the next chapter was firmly in their hands.
Today, their two sons represent the fourth generation of the family immersed in the Falls Creek lifestyle—growing up among the same mountains that first inspired it all.
With a deep respect for their history and a genuine passion for the alpine way of life, the family remains committed to preserving the traditions of the Falls Creek Hotel—while continuing to welcome guests for generations to come.
